Sometimes you want to email a few select individuals from a larger group. Instead of adding the people you want individually, there is a trick to add all at once and then take away those you don't want included.

First, to view members of the group: Go to groups.google.com > navigate to the desired group > on the left hand side go down to "members"

Create a personalized distribution list from an organizational google group

Part 1: Start on calendar.google.com

  1. Create a Calendar event
  2. Add the desired group to the invitation list (e.g. middleschool@ncs.org)
  3. Expand the group
  4. Save the event
  5. Choose not to notify the guests
  6. Open the event
  7. Click Email the guests
  8. Delete any email accounts you do not want added
  9. Copy the email addresses
  10. Delete the event
  11. Choose not to notify the guests

Part 2: Now with those email addresses copied go to contacts.google.com

  1. On the top left click " + create contact" and select "create multiple contacts
  2.  A pop up appears, paste the emails addresses you copied
  3. Where it says "no label" click and create a label "Distribution group Name".
  4. Once you made sure you added the names AND created the label you want for that group, click create

To use: When you are ready to send an email to this distribution list:

  1. Create a new email
  2. After To: start typing the name of your new distribution list
  3. It should appear as an option that you can select
